How to Wear the QiOne® 2 Pro: Water, Sauna, Cell Study

Shower, pool, sauna, chain or pocket: how to wear the QiOne 2 Pro, and what 56.3 and 85.5 percent mean in the cell study on cell phone radiation.

Macro photograph: a dark body wrapped in a thin brighter shell of denser medium following its whole contour, everything outside falling away into darkness, seen frontally and centred, filling the frame, the background falling away into darkness.

The QiOne® 2 Pro can go into the water, into the sauna and to the gym with you. You wear it on a chain, on a cord or in your pocket. The first two bars on its detail page come from a cell study published in 2021. People often ask about these three things before they buy. The first bar describes how well cultured intestinal cells close an artificial gap after 4 hours of cell phone radiation, a common source of EMF (electromagnetic fields). Without protection, they closed 56.3 percent of it, and with the QiOne 2 Pro, 85.5 percent. The cells come from a piglet, the lab ran 4 experiments, and all measurements took place in a cell culture. Once you know this, you can read those bars correctly.

Can the QiOne 2 Pro go in water and in the sauna?

Water resistance means that fresh water, pool chlorine, salt water, sweat and sun do the QiOne® 2 Pro no harm. You can keep it on in the shower, in the pool and during your workout. In the chat on our German shop, “Can the bracelet get wet?” is the quick question people choose most often.

The sauna is the one case with a practical caveat. The QiOne 2 Pro handles the heat, but its metal warms up. Worn against your skin, it stays cooler than in the open air. Hanging free in the hot air, for example over your clothes or set down on the bench, it can get unpleasantly hot. In a Finnish sauna at 80 to 100 degrees Celsius (176 to 212 °F), you will clearly feel the difference.

What to watch for in the water depends more on the chain than on the pendant.

  • Cotton cord: It comes with the pendant and soaks up water; for the pool and the ocean, a metal chain is more practical.
  • Necklace made of 316L surgical steel: It handles water and chlorine and is made to be worn all the time.
  • Your own silver or gold chain: It handles water, but over time it can scratch the casing.

Qi Blanco makes the pendant by cold pressing, a process meant to protect the GitterChip™ during manufacturing. On its product page, the company describes the QiOne 2 Pro as robust and durable.

How should I wear the QiOne 2 Pro?

The right way to wear your QiOne® 2 Pro is the one that fits your day, because there is no required position. The pendant has a hole 2.5 millimeters (about 0.1 inch) wide. The included cotton cord, the stainless steel Necklace or a chain of your own will pass through it. You can also carry it in your pants pocket or in another spot close to your body.

For wearing it around your neck, the Necklace comes in five lengths.

Size Necklace length
XS 40 cm (15.7 in)
S 45 cm (17.7 in)
M 50 cm (19.6 in)
L 60 cm (23.6 in)
XL 75 cm (29.5 in)

The longer the chain, the lower the pendant sits on your chest, and the more easily it disappears under your clothes. Whether a length is in stock right now is shown on the Necklace product page.

A chain of silver, gold or another precious metal is fine. Over time, any metal chain can leave scratches on the casing, stainless steel chains included. The Necklace from Qi Blanco is made of 316L surgical steel, the same steel as the casing. It is 1.6 millimeters (about 1/16 inch) thick and closes with a lobster clasp.

Some customers write in their reviews that they never take the QiOne 2 Pro off. That works because water, sweat and exercise don’t bother it. If you don’t like wearing anything around your neck at night, take it off in the evening and put it back on in the morning.

QiOne 2 Pro or QiBracelet: what is the difference?

The QiOne® 2 Pro and the QiBracelet® differ above all in the way you wear them, and according to Qi Blanco also in the strength of their design. The QiOne 2 Pro is a compact pendant for your neck or your pocket. The QiBracelet sits visibly on your wrist.

Qi Blanco designs the QiBracelet about 10 percent stronger. The company gives distance as the reason: your wrist is farther from the center of your body than a pendant on your chest. The stronger design is meant to make up for that distance, so that both have the same effect when worn. The choice comes down to taste and daily life:

  • You want to keep the technology with you discreetly: QiOne 2 Pro.
  • You want to show it as a piece of jewelry: QiBracelet.
  • Your job doesn’t allow neck jewelry: QiBracelet, or the QiOne 2 Pro in your pocket.

Both products are unaffected by water, both can go into the sauna, and both are developed and assembled in Bavaria, Germany. Every QiOne 2 Pro carries its own serial number. Qi Blanco describes the pendant as a non-electronic device and gives its service life in decades.

What do 56.3 and 85.5 percent mean in the cell study?

Cell regeneration here means the ability of a cell layer to close an artificially created gap by migrating and dividing. Qi Blanco shows exactly this measurement as the first bar on the QiOne® 2 Pro detail page of its German shop. The study comes from Prof. Peter C. Dartsch of Dartsch Scientific GmbH and was published in 2021 in the journal Applied Cell Biology.

The experiment ran in three steps:

  1. Intestinal cells grew in a dish with a cell-free gap 500 micrometers (about 0.02 inch) wide.
  2. For 4 hours, the dish sat on the display of an actively transmitting cell phone, once without and once with a QiOne 2 Pro next to it. The paper names cell phone and Wi-Fi radiation as the exposure. The phone had a SAR value of 0.76 watts per kilogram.
  3. After another 8 hours, the lab measured how much of the gap was still open.

Without protection, 43.7 percent of the area stayed open. With the QiOne 2 Pro, it was 14.5 percent, and for cells with no phone at all, 13.8 percent. The detail page shows the closed share, which is 100 minus these values: 56.3 percent, 85.5 percent and 86.2 percent. Each value is the mean of 4 experiments.

The author sums up the result in a single sentence.

“Mobile phone radiation caused a reduced cell regenerative activity by approximately 60%, whereas the values were about 15% for QiOne® 2 Pro protected cells and untreated controls, respectively.”

Read against the results, the summary’s 60 percent comes closest to the 56.3 percent closed share of the unprotected cells. Its 15 percent matches the area that stayed open with the QiOne 2 Pro and without a phone. The two figures therefore refer to different shares. The exact figures above come from the results section, where the paper reports the difference between unprotected and protected cells as statistically significant (p ≤ 0.01). Between protected cells and cells with no phone, it reports no statistically relevant difference.

What does the barrier resistance of the intestinal cells measure?

Transepithelial electrical resistance, or TEER, is a measure of how tight a cell layer is: the higher the resistance, the more closed the barrier. TEER is the second bar on the QiOne® 2 Pro detail page and comes from the same 2021 intestinal cell study by Prof. Peter C. Dartsch.

The lab measured cell layers that had grown on a porous membrane. A layer only entered the experiment once it reached at least 2,000 ohm square centimeters (Ω·cm²), which means it formed an intact barrier. After 4 hours of cell phone radiation and 24 hours of recovery, these were the mean values of 3 experiments:

Group TEER in Ω·cm² Share of the control
no phone (control) 2,542 100 percent
with QiOne 2 Pro 1,837 72.6 percent
unprotected 152 6.0 percent

The shares are the ones the paper gives. Dividing the two mean values directly yields about 72 percent for the protected layer. The value for the unprotected cells is revealing. An empty membrane without any cells already measures 150 to 180 Ω·cm². At 152, the unprotected layer was at the level of a membrane with no cells, so in this experiment the barrier had broken open. In the micrographs, the protected layer showed no such massive changes.

The SAR value puts the radiation in context. Germany’s Federal Office for Radiation Protection names a maximum for it.

“To rule out health effects of radio-frequency fields, the specific absorption rate of a cell phone should not exceed 2 watts per kilogram.”

At 0.76 watts per kilogram, the test phone was well below this maximum. The cells, however, sat directly on the display for 4 hours, which is closer and longer than a person usually holds a phone during a call. The study also made no distinction between thermal and non-thermal effects of the radiation.

Where do the cells in the intestinal study come from?

IPEC-J2 is a cell line from the small intestine of a newborn piglet, taken from the section called the jejunum. The QiOne® 2 Pro intestinal study worked with exactly these cells. The public cell line database Cellosaurus lists them under the identifier CVCL_2246, with Sus scrofa, the domestic pig, as their origin, and describes the line as spontaneously immortalized.

Researchers choose IPEC-J2 cells for a scientific reason. Prof. Dartsch’s 2021 study quotes a 2015 reference chapter on the cell line by Hans Vergauwen: IPEC-J2 cells are “neither transformed nor tumorigenic in nature.” They also “mimic the human physiology more closely than any other cell line of non-human origin.” Put simply, the cells have not been altered into cancer-like cells and do not form tumors. They gained the ability to keep dividing in the lab on their own, which is what spontaneously immortalized means. The chapter appeared in a book on food bioactives and health.

For you as a reader, this means three things:

  • The measurements were made in a cell culture in the lab, not in people.
  • The cells are of animal origin, chosen as a recognized model.
  • All experiments ran in one lab, and Qi Blanco provided the device.

The third bar on the detail page, living liver cells under oxidative stress at 41 and 88 percent, belongs to a different paper. Qi Blanco read these two values from a figure in it. That paper was published in 2024 in Applied Cell Biology, also from the Dartsch lab, and examined the QiBracelet®. Both studies are available in full on the Qi Blanco studies page, along with further publications, among them one on 171 user observations from 2024.

The cell studies provide a measurement under controlled conditions, with a control group and a significance test. How it feels in your own body is something your own experience answers best. The 20-day return period, counted from the day your delivery arrives, gives you time to find out.

Frequently asked questions about the QiOne 2 Pro

Do I need to take the QiOne 2 Pro off before I shower?

No. The QiOne® 2 Pro is unaffected by water, chlorine, salt water and sweat. Only the included cotton cord gets wet and dries slowly.

Does the QiOne 2 Pro get hot in the sauna?

Worn against your skin, it stays cooler than in the open air. Hanging free in the hot air, the metal heats up a lot and can get unpleasantly hot.

Which chain fits the QiOne 2 Pro?

Any chain that fits through a hole 2.5 millimeters (about 0.1 inch) wide. Over time, metal chains can scratch the casing, stainless steel ones included. The Necklace is made of the same 316L surgical steel as the casing.

Does the QiOne 2 Pro need power or a battery?

No. According to Qi Blanco, the QiOne 2 Pro is not an electronic device, so there is nothing to charge.

Has the QiOne 2 Pro been tested in humans?

Not in a controlled trial. According to Qi Blanco’s German studies page, all five published papers are preclinical. The figures in this article come from two of them, cell-culture studies with measurements on cells in the lab. A third paper, from 2024, describes the experiences that 171 users of the QiOne 2 Pro and the QiBracelet shared on social media, without a control group.

How long do I have to return the QiOne 2 Pro?

20 days from the day your delivery arrives. You get back what you paid, including standard delivery, and you pay the cost of sending it back.
